Meets at the City of Canby - City Hall Conference Room.

Position 1:

Elizabeth Thorstenson

Liz is an active member in our community as an Oregon State licensed Landscape Architect.  She is a graduate of Psychology from Western Oregon University in Monmouth, and Landscape Architecture from the University of Washington in Seattle.  Her relevant experience includes working for the City of Seattle’s Trails Program and designing many parks and fields for local prominent design firms.  Some of her most challenging and rewarding projects have included volunteering to build a straw bale house and community center for residents of the North Cheyenne Reservation in eastern Montana, and participating in the Habitat for Humanity Women’s Build in Tacoma, Washington.  Originally from Alaska, she now calls Canby home where she runs her small landscape architecture business Green Bridge Studio.  She has a genuine interest in our parks and recreation not only from a design perspective as a Landscape Architect, but as a mom of two young children.  She would like to ensure a bright future for Canby area parks so that her kids can grow up to appreciate all the benefits of an excellent quality local parks and recreation district.  On any given day, you may see Liz and her family enjoying Wait Park (“acorn park”, as her daughter says), Legacy Park (“squishy park”), or Maple Street Park (“pine cone park”).

Position 2:

Joe Driggers

elected 1995

Joe has a long history of being active in the Canby community; he has served on the boards of Canby School District, Canby City Council, Canby Utility Board, Canby Kids, Clackamas County Commission on Children and Family and the Canby Urban Renewal Advisory Committee.  A Canby resident since 1953, he graduated from Canby High School and then the University of Oregon.  He is the owner of Frank Bashor Supplies, Inc., an Oregon sporting goods company. Joe has been married thirty years to Bonnie, and has one adult daughter, Julia.  Joe has participated in sports his entire life along with coaching and sponsoring youth sports and recreation teams and programs.

Position 3:

Janie Malloy

appointed 2006

Janie Malloy succeeded Ron Wright who was elected to the CAPRD Board in 2005.  She was appointed due to her experience in nonprofit fundraising, community activism, and for her volunteer record. In 2006 Janie co-chaired the YES POOL committee to pass a successful levy to keep the Canby Swim Center open. Janie has coordinated the Canby Fall Classic Recreational Soccer Tournament since 2005 for the Canby United Soccer Association, which is soccer’s only fundraiser. Janie graduated from the University of Texas with a degree in Communications. As an avid athlete, she swims with the Canby Masters swim team, and is the current course record holder in her age group for the Gator Grinder Triathlon.  Much of her volunteer work revolves around her three children, Kelsey (14), Noah (12), and Ellery (9).  She has been a soccer coach, team manager and is the Art Literacy coordinator at Knight Elementary. Currently she resides in the historic Bair House Arts & Crafts bungalow with her husband, Milt Abel, 3 children, 2 dogs, 3 cats, 5 rabbits, 2 hermit crabs and 1 foreign exchange student from Slovakia.

“I joined the CAPRD Board to improve Parks and Recreation services for current and future Canby citizens.”

Position 4:

Bill Milne

elected 2005

Bill has been active in community affairs from the Board of Directors for Raleigh Hills Little League to many professional pharmacy organizations, church boards, and countless committees. Born in Portland, Bill attended grade school in Barlow and played baseball in Canby for several summers.  He moved to Roseburg for high school and then went to OSU and graduated from the School of Pharmacy.  After 3 years as a pharmacy officer in the Air Force, Bill returned home to Oregon to launch a pharmacy management and marketing career, beginning with 18 years at PayLess Drug Stores.  He has enjoyed all phases of his career including some time here in Canby at Parsons. Bill and Jan Milne live in Canby and enjoy the proximity to the dahlia fields for walking the dog, jogging and enjoying our city.

“For me, serving on the CAPRD Board is an opportunity to help facilitate the implementation of the unique tax district that can provide high quality recreation facilities in the greater Canby area.  Always an optimist, I’m sure we can make progress.”
